STATEMENT

この作品は、傾斜のある生家の狭い廊下において、床に設置したカメラとマイクによって収録した映像と音で構成している。
私は廊下の下部にカメラを設置し、様々な物を上へ運ぶ。物はやがて重力によって転がり落ち、その軌跡が記録される。私は再び麓（カメラのある側）に戻り、それらを上へ運び直し、この行為を繰り返す。動けないカメラの視点には、物が彼方から転がり、轟音とともに迫ってくる様子が映る。この音は床に置いたマイクによって強調されているが、実際に転がっているのは手のひらに収まるような日用品である。私はこの往復運動を、他者を理解しようとする試みに重ねている。理解はいつも途中にあり、到達することはない。想像しようとしても、届かない現実がある。同時に、自分がそれを経験していない側にいる。その位置から、それに向き合わざるを得ない人々と、その圧倒的な出来事にどのように向き合えばよいのかを考えている。その愚直な反復の記録でもある。

This work is composed of video and sound recorded using a camera and microphone placed on the floor of the narrow, sloped corridor of my childhood home. I place the camera at the lower end of the corridor and carry various objects up the slope. The objects eventually roll back down under gravity, and their trajectories are recorded. I then return to the bottom (where the camera is placed), carry them up again, and repeat this action. From the fixed viewpoint at the lower end, the camera captures the objects rushing down from a distance with a loud, overwhelming sound. This sound is amplified by the microphone placed on the floor, although the objects themselves are everyday items small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. I relate this repetitive movement to my attempt to understand others. Understanding is always partial and never reaches completion. Even when I try to imagine, there remains a reality that I cannot reach. At the same time, I am aware that I am on the side that has not experienced it. From this position, I think about how to face those who are compelled to confront it, and the overwhelming events they encounter. This repetitive action is an expression of that thought.
